The First Scout Camp
Why this initiative?
The initiative aims to provide a comprehensive scouting experience for children that helps them develop self-reliance, discipline, teamwork, and a sense of responsibility. Additionally, it focuses on acquiring practical life skills, enhancing awareness of the importance of safety, promoting volunteerism, and fostering a sense of belonging to the community.
What we did
The camp included a diverse range of activities and experiences, among the most notable:
- Recreational activities and team games to enhance cooperation and teamwork.
- Water activities and swimming.
- Activities that help children become more self-reliant and responsible in their daily lives at the camp.
- A visit to the archaeological site of Amrit to learn about one of the important historical sites in Tartus Governorate.
- A boat trip to Arwad Island and a tour around Arwad and the nearby area.
- Practical training on the basics of fire extinguishing and the proper use of fire extinguishers.
- Activities that contributed to the development of communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
- An end-of-camp celebration.
- A return to the site after the camp to participate in cleaning Amrit Beach and leaving it in better condition than before.
Impact
The camp provided children with the opportunity to engage in new experiences that combined learning, fun, and challenge. It contributed to enhancing skills such as self-reliance, teamwork, communication, and responsibility.
The impact of the initiative extended beyond the camp's conclusion, as participants returned to the beach in Amrit to clean the area. This practical application of the values emphasized during the camp, particularly the responsibility towards the community and the environment, highlighted the importance of preserving the space.
Story from the field
From the Camp to Beach Cleanup
The participants' experience did not end with the conclusion of the camp days. A few days later, the camp champions and the Tartus Madinati team returned to the Amrit beach to clean the area that had hosted a part of their experience, putting into practice a simple idea clearly expressed by the initiative:
“Leave the place better than you found it.”
This return was a practical extension of the camp's message, demonstrating that responsibility and environmental preservation are not just awareness messages, but behaviors that children can actively practice themselves.
